About the Founder

Smarty Pants Admissions Consulting was founded by Alex Chernavsky.  Alex's background is well suited to helping students get admitted to college.

Alex himself navigated the admissions process four times.  He graduated from Binghamton University with high honors in computer science.  He went on to obtain a master of science degree in neuroscience from Yale University.  Alex was accepted into Stanford University's Ph.D. program in molecular physiology.  However, he changed his career plans and ultimately earned his MBA from Cornell University.

For the past ten years, Alex has been active in the local alumni clubs for graduates of Yale and Cornell.  As such, he has interviewed many local high school seniors who are applying for admission to Yale.  He has also helped administer the annual essay contest organized by the Cornell Club of Rochester.  He ran the contest for two years, scoring hundreds of essays and awarding prizes to many talented students.

Alex scored in the 98th or 99th percentile on all his standardized tests, including the PSATs, SATs, GREs, and GMATs.  Starting in his college days, Alex has also tutored students in taking these exams.

Alex is a two-time winner of the McAllister Essay Prize for excellence in business writing, awarded by the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.  His scientific writing has appeared in Nature, Neural Computation, and other academic journals.  He has also taught graduate-level courses and has given presentations at scientific conferences.
